The animals come off of the walls, breathing.

They surround me, silently, then murmuring….

I touch them with my hands

We walk through the cavern chambers as a constellation,

a royal progress under the hill.

Blood and breath,

we know these things together,

hunger, desire, exhaustion, heat, cold, company.

This opera explores the life and mystery of the animals, the circulation of air and blood and the power of the heart which directs this circulation and movement as well as the movement of the stars in the universe. The public is immersed in a multimedia narrative, through images, song and sounds. 

Using a unique mix of classicism and the avant guard, BLOOD&BREATH is the third Frequency Opera which tells the legend of Mary Magdalene and Joseph of Arimathea when they retreated to the caves in the south of France after the death of their Master. Magdalene lived in solitude experiencing an interior transformation.
